Note that Aaron W. sent this to me way back in September, so I can only assume he is now happily married.

Hi! Love your site!
Catherine and I are getting married in a week. I made it a promise to myself to build her a bike before the wedding and this is the result.
I found this old 50cm Ross mixte frame in a used bike shop in Brooklyn. The guy let me take (and try and match) a fork and a stem from his pile of junk too. All of it for $40.
I also picked up a seat post from him for $5. Then i went to town online finding every other piece to this puzzle and $460 later this beautiful mash-up was done.
It’s a single speed, freewheel with deep V 700s and 160 cranks. bmx pedals and grips and big ol’ old school handle bars.
She wants a basket and a kickstand… we’ll see.
Enjoy,
Aaron
Thanks, Aaron, for submitting this cool bike! And thanks to Catherine for being such a good sport and modeling for us.

I agree with Catherine. That bike is screaming for a kickstand and a basket!

I’m wondering about the brake you put on the seatstay — why not use the hole on the middle set of stays and have much less of a twist and turn for the brake housing? My wife’s has a center pull that actually goes around the seat tube. very sweet ride nevertheless. congrats on the wedding!

This is awesome. I’ve got my eyes peeled for a mixte frame I can build up in the same kind of way.

Craig,
I have an old Raleigh mixte I built up for my wife and can confirm that they use raleigh threading, so a 68mm spindle won’t work. I plan to try a spindle from an old italian BB like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Bottom-Bracket-Shimano-105-Italian-Thread_W0QQitemZ370328898316QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCycling_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5639528b0c
I bought the BB, just haven’t gotten around to trying it out. Chainline’s always a pain in the rear to figure out

My girlfriend has a red Schwinn Traveler mixte frame, and I’ve been wanting to spruce it up. I showed her this post and she got excited about the possibility of converting her bike to a single speed. I think I might do it pretty soon. Thanks for posting this!
P.S. It’s funny, I put the same saddle on her bike a month ago, too.
