After a break from posting, it is time to get The Mixte Gallery back in business. We’re going to start with an “as found” bike submitted by Parks. He has a bunch of questions about his Centurion Custom DLX.

Hello! I am an American living in the Netherlands. I recently bought a lovely used mixte, 1981 Koga-Miyata (a wonderful Dutch brand). It’s a very nice little bike! I found it listed on marktplaats.nl, [similar to Craigslist in the U.S.?] The woman who sold it to me took it on a tour in France.

Now there's a handsome bike

Mrs. Gale

Mrs. Gale

Meet Mrs. Gale, aptly named for a woman who was very strong, feisty and lived her life with a passion for the simple things. She’s an early 80’s Nishiki and came to us a $20 mishmash of parts.

Hey, folks… I’m leaving for vacation and I won’t be putting anything new on The Mixte Gallery for probably about two weeks. I have a backlog that I’m working through, but go ahead and send your mixte pictures anyway and I’ll eventually get them up on the Gallery. I want to thank everyone who’s been sending pictures. In the last week alone I’ve had several submissions.

I can’t leave you totally without a fix, so here’s a nice Fuji Royale mixte I had for a while and sold.

Found this beautiful 1983 Raleigh Super Course mixte on CL for my wife as a Christmas gift. She wanted something vintage (like me), and she likes Raleighs.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to work FergieGirl’s update of her mixte, Petunia, into the rotation. I wasn’t quite sure I should do a separate post or if I should try to work it into an existing post. My indecision led to delay; I really should have posted this a while ago. Anyway, here’s what FergieGirl has to say about the updates she’s made on Petunia.

New and Improved Petunia

New and Improved Petunia

Hi Doohickie,
You’ve already got my Petunia on the gallery… but now she has a Brooks B66S saddle and nice new Schwalbe Marathon tyres… so an updated piccie of her is attached which could go on her entry. Still resolving the issue of trying to mount a bullet light AND a basket at the front – may have to do something ingenious in the way of brackets to mount the light on the handlebars as it won’t fit between the bottom of the basket and the wheels.
Cheers for now
Sabrina (FergieGirl)

In Apocalypse Now!, the photojournalist said that about Colonel Kurtz. Now, I’m saying that about Cameron, proprietor over at The Old Ten Speed Gallery. I post exclusively mixtes; he posts everything. And yet, I bet he’s already posted more examples of mixtes than I ever will. Check out some of his most beautiful bikes here.

I received this from Adrienne of Change Your Life. Ride A BIke! fame. Upon checking the linked flickr pictures, I decided it would be only right to share the a link to the slideshow with the readers of The Mixte Gallery since I can’t possibly get all the cool pictures up here.

Want to share your mixte with us?

I will be reopening The Mixte Gallery to new submittals soon! I have a backlog of submittals I need to post, and when the pile gets small enough, I will put a link in this spot that will let you send me your mixte.

Bear with me while I get caught up.

And thanks to Rebecca Olds-Bartlett for sending me pictures of Lorelei, one of which is the current banner for The Mixte Gallery.
