Our last mixte was bought as a mishmash of parts and put together. A very nice job on a classic bike. This time, though, we go even further back: Today’s mixte was assembled from scratch!

Doohickie,

I really enjoy your site! It was a great source of ideas for this bike. Here’s a Mixte I just finished for my wife Suzanne.

This bike is an award winner. But I get ahead of myself. Maybe I should let Tom tell the story.

The concept for this bike began with the birth of our son, Geoffrey. Danielle (my wife) needed a mommy bike. Read the rest of this entry »

Most of the mixtes on this gallery are older bikes. One might wonder what ever happened to the mixte? I’m happy to report that they are alive and well. And maybe a little pricey. So here are a few of the latest models in this post; the next post or two will have some modern mixtes as well.

First up is not a mixte at all, but a mixte frame that Velo Orange will be offering early next year. I wanted to include it because even without components, this is one beautiful frame.

Next up is a complete bike- A 2010 Trek Belleville, as spied at TrekWorld on Flickr

Finally, the 2009 Soma Buena Vista

I received tips on these from several readers, including Tom C., Geoff C. and Rollz. Thanks, guys!

One final note: I had been posting to this gallery every other day, but I wrenched my back this week while riding to work, and frankly I haven’t had the energy to keep up that pace. To those who have submitted mixtes, be patient; I’ll get your bikes up soon.

Want to share your mixte with us?

I will be reopening The Mixte Gallery to new submittals soon! I have a backlog of submittals I need to post, and when the pile gets small enough, I will put a link in this spot that will let you send me your mixte.

Bear with me while I get caught up.

And thanks to Rebecca Olds-Bartlett for sending me pictures of Lorelei, one of which is the current banner for The Mixte Gallery.
