Our last mixte was bought as a mishmash of parts and put together. A very nice job on a classic bike. This time, though, we go even further back: Today’s mixte was assembled from scratch!

Doohickie,

I really enjoy your site! It was a great source of ideas for this bike. Here’s a Mixte I just finished for my wife Suzanne.

This bike is an award winner. But I get ahead of myself. Maybe I should let Tom tell the story.

The concept for this bike began with the birth of our son, Geoffrey. Danielle (my wife) needed a mommy bike. Read the rest of this entry »

After posting Branszher’s mixte last week, I received an update on the bike, so before moving on, I thought I would post the latest on this cool bike.

Bonjour,

Thank you for publishing my pics! This is how the Old “genuine French mixte” looks like now, with the 8 gear Nexus hub. The 52 tooth (Shimano 105) chain ring allows smooth, long and fast rides. The Nexus works alright with the old friction shifter. You just have to “feel” the gear shifting with your ears and fingers.

Spring has sprung. I’ve transitioned to a new position at work, at a new office, and my commute went from 7 to 17 miles each way. I’m still trying to ride to work as much as possible, but it cuts into my time. Yeah, I know it’s not an excuse, maybe an explanation: In the transition, some of my other projects kind of fell off the table. One of those projects, sadly, has been The Mixte Gallery. But with the changing seasons, it’s time to start again. We’ll start with a real French Peugeot mixte from Braunzher. I know it’s really French because Braunzher’s email address ends in .fr. This is the first of a few Peugeots. What better way to rejuvenate the gallery?

Here’s another modern mixte, spied in the wild by the Kinya half of Mumbreeze, who writes…

Hi there,

thanks for the great Mixte Gallery! I’ve been enjoying the posts a lot.

Apologies for the background... captured in the wild, remember!

Apologies for the background... captured in the wild, remember!

I spotted a great looking mixte bike yesterday, so I thought I’d bring it to your attention.

I don’t know whose bike it is and I don’t have all the details, but it was one gorgeous bike and I couldn’t help taking pictures of it.

It’s not my bike, but I thought I’d pass it on to you anyway.

So what is this Pereira brand?

So what is this Pereira brand?

Curious, I Googled “Pereira bicycle” to find out what I could about the bike. I found out that Pereira Cycles is a framebuilder that makes “Modern Classics inspired by classics like the motorcycle-styled cruisers of the 1920s and the French “Golden Age” bikes from the 1940s and 50s” and the frames are built by Tony Pereira in Portland, Oregon. I also found this bike in his Flickr account; he built it for his friend Sharon. You can see some great pictures of the bike here.

Want to share your mixte with us?

I will be reopening The Mixte Gallery to new submittals soon! I have a backlog of submittals I need to post, and when the pile gets small enough, I will put a link in this spot that will let you send me your mixte.

Bear with me while I get caught up.

And thanks to Rebecca Olds-Bartlett for sending me pictures of Lorelei, one of which is the current banner for The Mixte Gallery.
